Trip Summary

St. Lucia is the a perfect vacation destination - a stunning natural landscape of palm-fringed beaches, miles of unspoiled rainforest and the majestic Piton Mountains are the setting for breathtaking views, friendly locals and rich culture that will impress even the most seasoned traveler. St. Lucia seems like an island plucked from the South Pacific and set down in the Caribbean, with the Pitons soaring dramatically 2,000 feet up from the sea and sheltering magnificent rainforests where wild orchids, giant ferns and birds of paradise flourish. The rainforest is broken only by verdant fields and orchards of banana, coconut, mango and papaya trees.

You’ll experience all the island has to offer including learning about the island’s pre-colonial history, exploring the local rainforest on a guided bike tour, visiting a cocoa plantation and learning how to make chocolate and learning to speak the local language known as Kwéyòl.

Despite its appearance as a tropical paradise, life isn’t easy for everyone on the island. Unemployment is high and young people in low income areas face challenges like lack of education, drug and alcohol dependency and gang culture. You’ll join a local NGO which uses soccer - a hugely popular sport in St. Lucia - as a hook to provide opportunities for education and employment.
