EXPERIENCE THE BEAUTY AND WARMTH OF HAITI WHILE HELPING TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY
Haiti is a true one-off. The first and only nation in the world born of a slave revolt, its culture – from its Creole language, to its Vodou religion – is a unique fusion of its African and European heritage. In recent years, Haiti has been better known for a series of natural disasters than its rich culture and stunning landscapes – from soaring mountains to tumbling waterfalls – but the island is rebuilding and is now tipped to be the next big Caribbean destination. You’ll experience all this, we well as seeing first-hand how soccer is helping the next generation of Haitians find hope in the future and break the cycle of poverty.
Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the Caribbean. Like the rest of the country Port-au-Prince was devastated by the massive earthquake of 7.0 magnitude which struck Haiti in 2010. Haiti is still rebuilding and the challenges faced by young people growing up in underserved communities like Cité Soleil are huge.
Haitians are passionate soccer fans and have a special attachment to the Brazilian national team. You’ll play friendly soccer matches with local teams on beautiful fields as well as pickup in the streets and play and train at the country’s National Olympic Center. You’ll participate in walking tours Cité Soleil, the Hospital Bernard Mevs, the National Museum of Haiti and visit local businesses aimed at creating opportunities for local youth, like the Project Stitch program where you’ll have the opportunity to buy locally made handbags. Finally, you’ll learn about the country’s unique culture, language and religions.
This destination offers a range of soccer activities that we can use to create experiences from BEGINNER to ELITE level.
