EXPERIENCE WONDER BOTH ANCIENT AND MODERN WHILST HELPING UNDERSERVED CHILDREN
Join the third half as we take you to India, where you’ll experience the rich history of this beautiful country, from the majesty of the Taj Mahal to ancient temples and bustling markets in Delhi to the sprawling metropolis of Bangalore and the tropical beaches of Kerala. In India one encounters both the modern and the old world in constant juxtaposition, as Western culture meets traditional values.
Experience all this colorful and energetic country has to offer, from its wild passion for ‘Bollywood’ and sport to its colorful local festivals and street vendors. You’ll also learn first-hand about the very real social challenges in one of the world’s poorest countries and experience how soccer is helping kids growing up in the overcrowded slums of cities like Delhi and Bangalore.
Delhi is all at once chaotic and calm, where cows wander the streets amongst the teeming rickshaw cabs thronging around sites of historical wonder. The 17th century Red Fort is a mass of domes and turrets, while Chandni Chowk market is an exercise in friendly haggling. Travelers and locals flock to the India Gate, the national monument of India that honors the soldiers who died in World War I and the Third Afghan War and of course the nearby, world-famous Taj Mahal in nearby Agra. You’ll visit My Angels Academy, which uses sport to provide hope and education to children living in the slums of Vikaspuri.
Bangalore & Kerala
Bangalore is a contemporary, fast growing and prosperous city that is home to largest concentration of IT companies in the country.People from all over India are drawn to the city, not just for jobs but in search of a better life. Bangalore is known for its long stretches of trees and parks, gardens and temples, busy markets and famous heritage buildings. The highest city in India, its elevation creates a pleasant climate throughout the whole year.
However, the city is very overcrowded, with poor infrastructure and a large part of the population living in slums. The most vulnerable population also suffer from constant floods from the plentiful rain that can wash away houses in minutes. You’ll visit local families and take part in programs designed to give youth opportunities on and off the field.
You’ll also see a completely different side of India when you visit tropical Kerala on India’s southwest coast. Kerala has been drawing traders, explorers and travellers to its shores for over 600 years, and nowhere else in India can you find such an intriguing mix: giant fishing nets from China, a 400-year-old synagogue, ancient mosques, Portuguese houses and the crumbling remains of the British Raj.
You’ll visit the local beaches and markets, sample Indian culture old and new and visit an elephant sanctuary.
